Choosing your villa at Riverview Rise comes down to three things only, because the villas are otherwise identical. Each one is detached, couples-only, and built to the same 91-square-metre footprint. They are intentionally spaced for privacy on a 40-acre escarpment above the Murray River at Cowirra via Mannum, South Australia, about an hour from Adelaide. Bob's Bungalow: the premium pick
Bob's Bungalow is the one villa positioned as a 6-star retreat rather than 5-star. Two features are unique to it. It's the only villa with a TV in the bathroom. Bob's is decorated in soft, cool russet pear colours, and its patio is the only one fitted with candles alongside the BBQ and overhead fan. Like Molly's, it includes cuddly gowns as well as the standard fluffy slippers.
The villa's name has a story behind it. It's named after a wall fountain made in the early 1990s called "Bob from Bali", one of the original fountains hangs on the wall when you arrive, a small piece of the property's history created by founder and designer Michael Chorney.
Bob's Bungalow suits couples who want the most premium of the three, and particularly those for whom time spent inside the villa matters as much as the setting outside it. Lazy Jane Lodge: the executive choice with a town outlook
Lazy Jane Lodge is the only villa with both town and river views. Where Bob's and Molly's look purely over water and bush, Lazy Jane also takes in Mannum across the river, a slightly more connected outlook for couples who don't want to feel entirely surrounded by nature. It's decorated in warm, leathery colours and positioned as an Executive Spa Villa.
It has a private lawn garden, a feature not shared with Molly's or with Bob's. There are two smaller points of difference worth knowing. Lazy Janes, and its patio has the BBQ and overhead fan, but not the candles that Bob's has.
Lazy Jane Lodge suits couples who like the idea of a town-and-river outlook rather than a purely natural one, and who value direct access to a private garden. The executive framing fits a stay that's restful without being completely off-grid, you can see a little life on the far bank while still having the river in front of you.
Molly's Hideaway: the river view in full
Molly's Hideaway has the most dramatic position of the three. It sits right on the edge of the river escarpment, with a 180-degree panoramic view of the Murray. If being right on the edge is what you most want from the stay, Molly's is the clear choice.
It's decorated in warm coffee colours. Like Bob's, it includes cuddly, soft gowns as well as fluffy slippers, and its patio has a BBQ and an overhead fan.
Molly's Hideaway suits couples for whom the setting is the centrepiece, morning light on the water, long afternoons watching the river move, and photographs that need no arranging.
